Job description
Teachers in special schools are responsible for creating a safe and progressive learning environment for children and young people who require a more bespoke curriculum to fulfil their education journey.
The approach is often on a one-to-one basis, where traditional teaching styles are adapted and modified to facilitate the needs of everyone. Adjustments may be in teaching methods, curriculum materials and alternative assessment techniques to accommodate diverse learning abilities and disabilities.
Often, SEN Teachers are supported by teaching assistants and have access to various assistive technologies and alternative communication methods to ensure an inclusive approach to students accessing and engaging with a curriculum that works for them.
