Job description

Job Title: Behaviour Mentor

Location: Newport

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 - 15:30

Pay: Minimum £12.82ph

Start: May/June 2024

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking a Behaviour mentor to help support a class of pupils with Additional Learning Needs, the pupils are aged 4-7 years old with ASD and ADHD. The role will entail working to support children from reception to year 4 (Ages 4 to 7). You would be based within the school's SEN Unit, the pupil's in this class have Autism and will require hands on support, personal care and behaviour management.

SEN Teaching Assistant responsibilities:

  • Being patient, understanding and proactive.
  • Understand how to de-escalate challenging behaviour
  • Promote independent working but also encouraging social interaction and engagement with peers.
  • Create a positive and caring, safe environment for the pupil to thrive.
  • Adapt to the different needs of each pupil within the classroom.

Whilst having experience working with children who have SEN in a professional setting is desirable, we welcome applications from people who have personal experience or someone who is willing to fully engage and develop skills in the area.

A Successful Teaching Assistant will require:

  • To be registered with the EWC (Education Workforce Council)
  • Hold a Child only DBS certificate that is registered on the Update System.
  • Provide 2 professional references covering 24 months.

The School:

This school is based in Newport and is easily accessible via public transport. They have around 600 pupils. They have two dedicated class bases to support pupils with Additional Learning Needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
