Improving the teacher and teaching assistant (TA) relationship in special education is essential for providing the best possible support to students with special needs. Here are ten ways to enhance this relationship:. Remember that the ultimate goal is to create a harmonious and effective team that prioritises the well-being and progress of students with special needs. By fostering a positive teacher and TA relationship, you can significantly improve the quality of education and support provided in both mainstream and special schools.
As we find ourselves amid a teacher recruitment and retention crisis, now is the time to consider how the rigidity of using a traditional application process is potentially eliminating and damaging the emerging talent pool. Who is being missed because of tradition?. In our research over the past few years, we have established that application forms are not favoured amongst the job seeking community. Candidates are time poor; application forms take time to complete, the process turns off potential applicants rather than enticing them to apply. CVs are conducive to a quick one-click-apply process and are favoured by recruitment agencies and candidates alike.

Earlier this month, our founder Amy Allen shared her thoughts on the government’s latest SEND measures – launched in response to a growing number of complaints from parents. The Department for Education has outlined reforms hoped to improve what it describes as a ‘postcode lottery’ system across the SEND provision system in England. Plans include the build of 82 special free schools and expansion of training for 5,000 special educational needs co-ordinators and 400 educational psychologists.
Across the UK, parents and families of children with special educational needs (SEN) have spent many years fighting a system that they say has ‘failed them’. The government has admitted that the vital provision is underserving some of the most vulnerable children and local authorities report huge deficits on their SEND budgets while children struggle to get the support they need. The number of complaints from parents about SEND has risen by three-quarters in the past four years – with more than one complaint a day filed last year, according to figures from the local government and social care ombudsman (LGSCO).
2 April was World Autism Awareness Day – a chance to celebrate the strengths and differences of those with autism. At Senploy, we wanted to take the opportunity to explore the vital role that SEN plays within the neurodiverse community and share some of the opportunities available within the industry right now. According to the National Autistic Society, there are 700,000 autistic people within the UK and government data from January 2022 [1] revealed that Autistic Spectrum Disorder was the most common type of special educational need, with 103,400 (31.3%) pupils with an Education, Health and Care plan (EHC) having this recorded as their primary need.
Back in December, Rishi Sunak’s government announced it was considering proposals to give over-50s tax breaks for getting back into work after a career brea k. Around nine million people in the UK are now ‘economically inactive’ according to government figures , and around 2.2 million are on out of work benefits.
