Milestone Education provides recruitment, training and wellbeing solutions for schools.

Amy Allen has caught up with COO, Richard Catchpole, to give us the lowdown on Milestone's 'why'. Read on to find out more...

Who are Milestone Education and what do you do?

We are an education platform service that provide Recruitment, Training and Wellbeing solutions for schools.

There’s lots of education recruitment agencies, why should candidates come to Milestone Education?

We want to make a difference to recruitment and retention. It’s in our interest to secure you a role you’ll love, in a setting you’ll want to stay in, with a view to progressing your career. If that’s what you want!

You’re an SEN specialist recruiter, why do you like working in the sector?

The complexities and considerations around working with children with SEND have only been exacerbated by the pandemic. Many children with SEND are still educated in mainstream schools while they await specialist provision placements, and many others have seen their mental health impacted during and after the effects of COVID-19. We’re determined to provide child-centred solutions for schools and staff to feel confident and well-informed when working with a range of needs in the classroom.

Why should jobseekers consider working in Special Education?

We’ve been lucky enough to support jobseekers from all backgrounds with a wide range of education experience. Many assume that working in Special Education isn’t an option because they haven’t done it before, but the core skills needed for SEND job roles lie within the person’s nature; their ability to care, have patience, understanding and empathy – and in our experience, those traits come very naturally to people who want to work with children, no matter what their needs are.

What types of jobs are you recruiting for currently?

Primarily we recruit Teachers and Support Staff, but you can find a full list of job roles we recruit for on our website.

What personal qualities and characteristics are important to work in Special Education?

Apart from patience and empathy – it helps if you can be adaptable to your environment. The unique learning needs will often keep you on your toes, which makes it all the more interesting and rewarding.

What if the candidate isn’t quite right for the role which they applied for?

It’s never a pleasant task to let someone know they haven’t been successful in their application, but like any other industry, many factors can affect this. What’s important to remember is if you are keen to find a role in one of our locations, and your safeguarding checks are in place, we won’t give up the search on your behalf.

Do they need a DBS? How do they get one and what’s the cost?

An enhanced DBS check is required for all jobs working with children and vulnerable adults. We can provide an application link for you to apply, costing £48. Once that DBS is subscribed to the Update Service, you can use the same disclosure year on year, providing the subscription is maintained.

Do candidates have to pay you to find them a job?

Our services are completely free. Costs will only incur if you require a new DBS or OSPC, but don't worry - we can still put you forward for interviews while the applications in process, so you won't miss out on all the exciting opportunities!

When you place someone into a role, what happens if they have any queries or need further information about their placement?

We maintain consistent communication with all our education heroes! We’re always available via text/phone/email. Tell us about how your week has gone, what you’re enjoying about the role, or let us know if we can support in any way and we will be there to help.

Any other advice you can provide to jobseekers?

Have faith that the right role is out there for you. The first opportunity might not be your dream role, but the experience will help you get there.

What’s your team motto or mantra?

Driving meaningful change within education.
