Job description

A SEMH school based in Warrington are currently looking to recruit a SEND Teaching Assistant to support a year 4 child on a 1:1 basis. You will be working in the main classroom with the child and supporting them to engage and excel by adapting the curriculum to suit their specific needs. The child is very energetic and loves to be creative so an arty/creative background would be beneficial. The SEND school highly value well-being and creative learning and are dedicated to providing the very best for all their pupils.

The Main Duties of the SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Promote a secure learning environment
  • Use Makaton and PECS to encourage communication
  • Provide support to the Class Teacher
  • Monitor and track progress of the supported pupils
  • Be able to adapt the work set to meet the individual needs of the child
  • Build excellent relationships with the children and staff alike

To be a successful SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Have a working knowledge of supporting children with SEMH
  • Ideally hold relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications
  • SEND training and experience
  • De-Escalation training would be ideal but is not essential as training can be provided by Empowering Learning
  • Ability to motivate and engage children with enthusiasm and imagination
