Job Title: Registered Manager

Reporting to: Head of Social Care

We are looking for a qualified care manager to lead the team at our small and friendly care home in Heysham, Lancashire. 

Purpose of role: To lead the Home in all areas of practise to ensure it delivers high quality care to all its children. To structure, organise and develop a team of professionals who are committed to delivering the Home's Vision ensuring the highest possible outcomes for all its children. To ensure the Home complies with all relevant statutes and guidance which are enforced by the regulatory bodies

Working with: Head of Social Care, Kedleston's Executive Management Team and other Registered Managers in the group

Kedleston Schools Ltd (“Kedleston”) is the parent of Heysham House Children's Home. It is an independent organisation which owns and operates a group of schools/homes for children with a range of special educational needs. Kedleston's vision is to become the most respected provider of specialist schooling in the country. It is committed to achieving this by investing in its people, practices and infrastructure.

The Registered Manager of Heysham House will uphold the Mission, Values and Goals of the Kedleston Group as expressed in its Vision and Mission Statement. The RM will ensure that the Group's ethos is clearly articulated and will give professional support and guidance to colleagues in Heysham House to ensure these Goals are delivered.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

To ensure a consistent, high quality care provision is provided to all young people that live in the home

To contribute to a rigorous program programme of self-evaluation within the home which drives a culture of self-improvement

To ensure that the quality of care provided for all our children is best in class and that the setting has a high quality, homely feel

To instill a culture of best practice where everyone is working to achieve a common goal which is clearly understood by all

To ensure a working environment in which employees are motivated and empowered to achieve in all they do for our children

To ensure that the Home's occupancy targets are achieved and to pro-actively work to ensure that there is an active waiting list for places

Additionally, the Residential Manager's focus will be to address and develop the following:

Registered Person

To hold registration under the Care Standards Act 2000, maintaining registration standards and adhering to the Act's regulations and Heysham House's policies and procedures.

To plan and contribute towards the budget setting process for the home and ensure effective financial monitoring.

Providing on duty / on call support in accordance with rotas

To adhere at all times to the GSCC Codes of Practice.

Leadership

Ensuring effective leadership of the Home, such that it is organised, managed and staffed in a manner that delivers the best possible child care.

To support the implementation of the organisations strategic and business plan, ensuring best practice.

To develop the service ensuring effective administration and communication, promoting confidentiality and to contributing organisational development.

Chair care leadership and care staff meetings.

Staff

Ensuring care staff are appropriately supervised, trained and appraised, encouraging continued professional development of all employees.

Participating in the recruitment and selection of members of the care team, including hosting Care Worker visits, and attending and contributing to interviews.

Child Welfare

Ensuring a high standard of care and support is available to each child at all times and that there are sufficient staff on rota at all times. Also to ensure that all care practices in place meet the requirements of current legislation and the expectations of the inspecting regulatory bodies.

To ensure a full needs assessment is completed prior to a young person being offered a placement.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and ensuring that Heysham House's ‘Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy' is adhered to, including taking on the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Home.

Ensuring all the medical needs of the children are catered for and routine appointments are maintained.

Ensuring that all current legislation is followed in relation to the handling, recording, safekeeping, administering and disposal of medicines.

To promote positive interaction between the young people and the local community.

Collaborating with the Leadership Team and Team Teach Instructors in implementing, monitoring and reviewing all aspects of Heysham House's Behaviour Management Policy.

Documentation

Contributing to, and reviewing and updating, the Home's Statement of Purpose and other School policies and documentation appropriate to residential life.

Devising, evaluating and reviewing Home documentation appropriate to the role in collaboration with other Registered Managers.

Monitor and maintain all Heysham House's paperwork systems and practices, ensuring legislation and policy requirements are up held.

Holding responsibility to complete necessary documentation for OFSTED re: Residential Living.

General

Promoting and ensuring the general health, safety and welfare of the staff and children and ensuring adherence to Heysham House's Workplace Health and Safety Policy, and holding responsibility for Heysham House's Risk Assessment programme.

Maintaining appropriate liaison with parents / guardians and outside agencies.

Undertaking other such duties of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by your line manager.

Training and Development

Participating in arrangements for your own induction, supervision, training and development.

Undertaking qualifications deemed necessary by the Head of Social Care to fulfil the requirements of the post.

Reviewing your own methods of care and support.

Appraisal

Participating in your own Appraisal arrangements.

Ensuring that all care staff are supervised and appraised in line with both statutory and internal policy requirements.

Other Ad-hoc Duties

To complete other duties as necessary to ensure the continued success of the Kedleston Group
