Teaching Assistants / Learning Mentors - Wakefield (WF7/8/9 Area)

A specialist school on the outskirts of Wakefield are looking for Teaching Assistants and learning mentors to work within their school with a view to going permanent. The school are requiring extra staff due to an increase in student referrals to work 1:1 and in the general classroom assisting with learning.

This role will involve working on a 1:1 level and some group work with students who have Autism, face physical challenges or have other mental health difficulties and you will work alongside another support staff and the Teacher. You will be helping with their class work, carrying out pastoral duties and ensuring their mental health is protected. This role would be ideally suited to individuals who have previously worked in Pupil Referral Units (PRU), Outreach programmes, Special schools, Youth work or supported students or young people with additional learning needs. It would also especially suit graduates who want to work with young people with additional needs and work in Education going forward and even become a Teacher or Educational Psychologist.

Key Responsibilities:

- Support pupils both in and out of the classroom, with educational, pastoral and personal development
- Manage and support the behaviour of pupils in lessons and around the school
- Patrolling the school and working with pupils not in class, for whatever reason and getting them to re-engage in learning.

• A DBS certificate with a live subscription to the update service or be willing to get one
• Two professional references within the last three years
• Someone who is committed to the safeguarding of young people
