Year 6 Teaching Assistant
Tower Hamlets September Start
Full Time • Term Time • Long Term
Daily Pay from £110+Peak Education is recruiting a committed and enthusiastic Year 6 Teaching Assistant to support pupils in their final year of primary school as they prepare for transition to secondary education. The role involves providing academic, pastoral and behavioural support to help pupils stay focused, confident and ready to achieve their best.
This is a warm, inclusive setting in Tower Hamlets with a strong emphasis on wellbeing, behaviour support and personalised learning. Staff work collaboratively to create a calm, structured environment where pupils feel supported, valued and able to progress. Targeted intervention and mentoring form an important part of the school's approach.
This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and who can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who need extra guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils in Year 6
- Assist with literacy, numeracy and SATs preparation
- Promote confidence, resilience and positive learning behaviours
- Support behaviour strategies and encourage constructive engagement in lessons
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral leads and SEN teams
- Track progress, maintain clear records and contribute to intervention plans
- Encourage strong attendance, punctuality and readiness to learn
- Model positive behaviour and uphold high expectations
Candidate Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people in a school, youth‑work or mentoring capacity
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly
- A calm, patient and nurturing approach
- Confidence supporting pupils with additional or complex needs
- Ability to follow safeguarding procedures and work effectively as part of a team
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people
Desirable Training / Qualifications:
- ELSA, Thrive, Nurture or Drawing & Talking
- Mental Health First Aid
- Team Teach or de‑escalation training
- Level 4/5 qualification in counselling, youth work or behaviour support
