Job description

KS1 Teacher - Teach Differently. Make a Bigger Impact.

📍 Trowbridge Campus, Silverwood School
🧠 Specialist setting - Full-time - Permanent

Are you ready to teach in a way that truly transforms lives? Silverwood School's Trowbridge Campus is looking for a KS1 Teacher who can think outside the box, meet children where they are, and help them move forward, one meaningful step at a time.

This isn't mainstream. This is education tailored to pupils with autism, communication needs, sensory processing differences, and complex learning profiles. Here, creativity and flexibility aren't just appreciated, they're essential.

About the Role

You'll lead a small class of up to 8 pupils in Key Stage 1, delivering a highly individualised curriculum. Every lesson is an opportunity to help children connect, communicate, and grow.

Your classroom will be supported by skilled teaching assistants, and you'll work collaboratively with therapists and wider school staff to make learning accessible, engaging, and emotionally safe.

What You'll Be Doing

🔹 Designing creative, practical learning experiences focused on early communication and emotional development
🔹 Using sensory strategies and structure to reduce anxiety and support engagement
🔹 Contributing to EHCP targets and celebrating progress in ways that go beyond academic data
🔹 Creating a classroom culture where each child feels seen, heard, and supported
🔹 Working hand-in-hand with families and your class team to deliver the best possible outcomes

What You'll Bring
  • QTS (or equivalent) and a nurturing, adaptable approach to teaching

  • Curiosity, empathy, and a desire to learn from your pupils as much as they learn from you

  • Confidence in managing behaviour supportively and positively

  • Willingness to explore new teaching strategies, technologies, and therapeutic approaches

  • A collaborative mindset - you'll be part of a larger team of SEN specialists

'We celebrate the small wins. Progress might look different here, but it's no less meaningful.' Views of an existing Silverwood Staff member.

Why Join Silverwood?

✅ A forward-thinking specialist school with outstanding facilities, including sensory spaces and Forest School
✅ A welcoming, experienced team who support each other and champion wellbeing
✅ Regular, relevant CPD and opportunities for professional development
✅ A culture that values autonomy, innovation, and compassion in equal measure
