We are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist school in Derbyshire who are looking for a Residential Support Worker to join their team. The role will be working in the schools residential setting, assisting students with various care in their homes, and supporting their needs during leisure activities and school holidays. You'll encourage students' independence and support their choices whenever possible. Flexibility is key, as all staff members are expected to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.
The school provides education to children and young people aged 5 up to 20 with Asperger's, High-Functioning Autism (ASC), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), speech, language and communication needs ( SLCN ), anxiety and other related complex needs.
They are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, patient, and understanding, with the resilience to take on challenges and deliver high-quality care to young people. You should be able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently, using your own initiative. While experience in a similar setting with young children is a plus, it's not required, as full induction and training will be provided.
Due to the nature of our roles, candidates must be a UK Resident residing within the local area. Please note we cannot offer visa sponsorship for overseas candidates.
What skills are required?
- Level 3 Qualification in Care or Children & Young People, or an equivalent certification
- Willingness to complete accredited courses and mandatory training within the specified timeframe
- Legal right to work in the UK
- Understanding of how to care for and support others
- Awareness of the role, including its rewards and challenges
- Ability to work under the direction of a Team/Shift Leader
- Strong verbal and listening skills
- Capability to function effectively as part of a team
- Ability to take initiative
- Competence in working under challenging circumstances
- Experience in organizing activities for children or young adults
- Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication tools
