About the role
Luma Education Recruitment is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Outreach Tutor / Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Totnes, Devon.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with young people and wants a role that goes beyond the traditional classroom environment.
You'll support young people with SEN, SEND and SEMH needs with their education, confidence, communication, independence and life skills. The role combines learning support with outreach and community-based activities, so no two days are necessarily the same.
You could be supporting a learning activity in the morning, heading into the community with a young person, helping with a practical life-skills activity or supporting them to access a new environment or experience.
It's an ideal opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEN TA, tutor, learning mentor or support worker looking to develop their experience within specialist education and alternative provision.
What you'll be doing
As an Outreach Tutor / Learning Support Assistant, you'll provide individualised support to young people both within the education setting and in the wider community.
Your day could include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group learning support
Supporting young people with SEN, SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD and additional learning needs
Supporting English, Maths and wider educational activities
Helping pupils develop confidence, communication and social skills
Supporting practical learning and life-skills development
Accompanying young people on community activities, trips and visits
Supporting shopping trips, budgeting and other everyday activities
Helping young people make choices and develop greater independence
Encouraging pupils to participate in new activities and experiences
Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
Helping young people become more confident accessing their local community
Building positive and consistent relationships with individual pupils
Working alongside teachers and the wider specialist education team
Supporting young people to develop skills they can use beyond the classroom
Who would suit this role?
We're keen to hear from people with experience in education, SEND, SEMH, alternative provision, youth work, care, residential support, mentoring or community-based support.
Relevant experience could include working as a:

Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEN, SEMH, autism, ADHD, behavioural needs or additional learning needs would be beneficial.
You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional education career path. If you have relevant experience, a positive attitude and genuinely enjoy helping young people develop, we'd like to hear from you.
We're looking for someone who is:
Patient, positive and reliable
Confident building relationships with young people
Comfortable providing 1:1 support
Interested in SEN, SEND, SEMH and alternative provision
