SEN Teaching Assistant (ASD) - Full Time | Immediate Start

Location: Wakefield / Pontefract
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time

We are working in partnership with a well-established SEN school in Pontefract that is looking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This is a full-time role supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This opportunity is ideal for someone who is patient, caring, and committed to supporting children with complex needs, helping them to achieve their full potential within a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism (ASD)

  • Support the class teacher in delivering individualised learning activities

  • Assist with personal care, mobility, and sensory support where required

  • Help create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to support pupil development and wellbeing

  • Encourage pupils' communication, engagement, and independence throughout the school day

Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly ASD (essential)

  • A patient, empathetic, and positive approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • The ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations

  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex learning needs
