The Difference Between Mainstream Tuition and Specialist SEND Tuition
When a child is struggling at school, tuition is often the first solution families turn to. It is a reasonable instinct — extra support, delivered one-to-one, outside the pressures of the classroom. But there is a distinction that many parents are not aware of until they have already spent months in the wrong type of provision: mainstream tuition and specialist SEND tuition are not the same thing, and for children with additional needs, that difference matters enormously. Choosing the wrong type of support does not just fail to help — it can actively set a child back, reinforcing the belief that they are simply not capable of learning, when the truth is that they have not yet been taught in a way that works for them.
